#1 North Carolina vs. #6 Notre Dame. On paper, this game doesn’t look to favorable for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. But games aren’t played on paper. And Mike Brey’s team has proven time and time again that they can play with any team in the country if they put it all on the line.
On the other hand, North Carolina has been lights out. Could this be a case of one team coming in on a high and another coming in with nothing to lose (much like last night with Villanova and Kansas)? Perhaps, but it might be much more than that.
Carolina has been great up front with Kennedy Meeks and Brice Johnson while the guards have been hot and creating lots for their team. Given the ability of this team, the game should come to them and they should capitalize.
Demetrius Jackson has gotta come to play like he did the other day. A team effort will certainly be needed, but the guys up front will be asked to play even bigger than their listed heights. It will be in Notre Dame’s best interests to slow things down but my guess is that it doesn’t quite go that way.
With a good bit of scoring on both ends, this game should be a fun one regardless of whether it’s competitive. They split the previous two games with Notre Dame winning a tough one at home 80-76 and then North Carolina stomping the Irish in Chapel Hill 78-47 in the ACC Tournament. North Carolina 82, Notre Dame 74.
