In a last-second move the Sacramento Kings pulled t-shirts last night celebrating the Chinese New Year, which is the Year of the Monkey. The black t-shirts with purple writing were to be handed out on the first day of Black History Month.
The connotation isn’t great if you’re thinking beyond the shirts, but isn’t that reading into things a bit? What isn’t insensitive when there always seems to be someone that gets their feelings hurt?
Black History Month is important, so maybe this was poor timing. Let’s just hope this wouldn’t have been an issue regardless of when the shirts would have been unveiled. Because if the timing didn’t matter then this might have been a tad oversensitive.
