Not even sure there is one. Brucina doesn’t count, right? I’m sure there’s something in a different language that would qualify, but I don’t really have the time to research that one. Anyways, by now you’ve probably all heard about Bruce Jenner’s gender reassignment surgery. Don’t try to act not surprised. He was always a nice, gentle, mild-mannered person that liked to pamper himself from time to time. But that doesn’t make him any less of a man. And all the while we were thinking different media outlets were really barking up the wrong tree by bringing this identity crisis idea into the picture.
Wow. It’s happening. It’s already begun. And what’s not that wild of a idea for other people, it should come as a surprise to those legion of fans of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Now divorced from Kris Jenner, Bruce won’t have to deal with the extra bullshit that comes with being in the public eye all the time, right? Even with reality-star son Brody, there wouldn’t be another reason to find himself on TV, right? Wrong. He’s going to have his own reality show that has already started filming his process in becoming a women.
While the paparazzi will undoubtedly show glimpses of the man here and there, we won’t get the whole story and the reason behind everything without watching the show. Still, Jenner has long been annoyed with life as a reality show participant. He’d rather lay low and play golf in Malibu. Nice life, huh? Well he still may do some of that. But this time there will be cameras following him most everywhere he goes. He will have more ability to control the cameras and editing, so that might take some of the strain off.
The former World Champion and Olympic athlete has long been a picture of good health and the public perception of well-being wasn’t necessarily an issue thought to be surrounding Jenner. Just look in some of the magazine articles online. He looks very feminine. Bruce never liked having short hair and took care of his skin and dressed nice and other things that were certainly very metrosexual. But there’s a difference between using treatments meant for a woman and outright becoming one.
What might be more intriguing than a real-life show about the transgendereds (because there have been several on TV over the last couple years) may be the reaction to all of it. More importantly, how it is received in the LGBT community and from transgendered individuals of note. Chaz Bono is the most notable person that has since made a transition in the public eye and while he battled through weight issues, he seems to be making progress in all aspects going forward. While we wish Bruce Jenner the best, we can’t help but wonder how this may play out. But anyone that can live with those women in a house for more than a couple weeks at a time (much less a few decades) should be free to do whatever he wants to do.
